Now that the first Watch is printing money for Apple, it’s time to start working on the next version that will print even more money. So, what can you expect from Apple Watch 2? According to “industry sources,” Apple’s focusing on one of the Watch’s biggest shortcomings: its dependence on the iPhone. They’re referring to this part of the project as “tether-less,” and will likely include cramming a Wi-Fi adapter into the new models.
Also predicted to appear in the next Apple Watch: a FaceTime camera. Watch OS already allows users to make and receive audio-only FaceTime calls, and it’s only natural to think they’d want to provide full functionality. You know, actual face time. The camera would be integrated into the bezel, not slapped on the band awkwardly like Samsung did on the first Galaxy Gear. As for whether or not it’ll allow for stealthy snapshots, that’s up to Apple; they may decide to keep it locked down.
Even though they’re adding components, Apple wants to keep battery life the same on the second-gen Watch. They’ve taken the same approach in the past with new iPhone and iPad models, so sticking with their MO for the new Watch would make sense.
One other thing Apple’s reportedly working very hard at: figuring how to convince even more consumers to part with a great deal of money. They’re trying to come up with Watch packages that would fall in the broad $1,000 to $10,000 range between first-gen models. You certainly can’t blame a company for wanting to generate additional profit from a product that shoppers (especially those with a lot of disposable income) clearly want to buy. Especially when they’ve already proven they’re OK spending $49 on a piece of silicone that costs $2 to produce.
