Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of two mid-range, voice-calling tablets in India – the Samsung Galaxy Tab A and the Galaxy Tab E – in order to better compete with rival products from Apple, Xiaomi and Lenovo in the country. The tablets have been priced atRs. 20,500 and Rs. 16,900 respectively.
Commenting on the launch, Asim Warsi, vice-president, marketing, IT & Mobile, Samsung India, said,
The launch of two new tablets will carry forward our legacy of introducing smart media devices and we are confident that new Galaxy Tabs will seamlessly become a part of consumer’s daily routine.
The Galaxy Tab A features an 8-inch TFT display (1024 x 768px resolution) and is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor from Qualcomm. Accompanying this is 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable upto 128GB), a 5MP auto-focus rear camera, 2MP front camera and a 4200 mAh battery.
Measuring 208.4 x 137.9 x 7.5mm and weighing around 320g, the Galaxy Tab A will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and will be available in Smoky Titanium and White color options.
As part of its promotional campaign for the Galaxy Tab A, Samsung has announced that it will be offering Galaxy Gifts worth Rs 30,000 across various app genres like entertainment, ebooks, lifestyle and utility. Additionally, telecom operator Airtel will also offer 2GB of free data for 2 months for its 4G subscribers.
The Galaxy Tab E (3G) on the other hand features specifications identical to its Wi-Fi only counterpart that was launched in Taiwan a couple of days ago, except that the former includes 3G support. It features a 9.6-inch WXGA TFT display (1280 x 800px resolution) and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. Also included is 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, a 5MP primary camera with auto-focus and a 2MP front-facing camera.
The Galaxy Tab E (3G) is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery and will support 2G/3G data (no 4G). Measuring 241.9 x 149.5 x 8.5mm in dimensions and weighing 495g, the Tab E will run on Android 4.4 KitKat upon launch and be available in Metallic Black and Pearl White color options.
As far as promotional offers go, telecom operator Vodafone has announced that it will offer 2GB of free 3G data per month for 2 months to postpaid users, and 1GB of free 3G data for 2 months on purchase of 1GB to prepaid customers.
